Nord Stream Wins Danish OK

The Gazprom-led Nord Stream pipeline designed to transport Russian gas to Europe got a shot in the arm Tuesday when Denmark granted project partners a permit to build a section of the pipe in its waters. The license is the first of five that Nord Stream requires from the states whose Baltic Sea waters the pipeline will transit. It is set to pass through 87.7 km of Denmark's territorial waters and 49.9 km of its exclusive economic zone. Nord Stream said it was in "advanced discussions" with the authorities of the four other countries - Russia, Finland, Sweden and Germany - over the outstanding permits.
