Reliance Court Case Opens

India's Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing a dispute between Reliance Industries (RIL) and Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) over the price at which RIL - controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani - should sell gas to RNRL, controlled by estranged younger brother Anil. Anil said he agreed with Mukesh in 2005 to buy gas from the KG-D6 field - the country's biggest gas field - at a 44% discount to a price set by the government in 2007. The deal was part of a private family settlement under which the Reliance empire was split between the brothers after the death of their father.
