Military officials from the United Arab Emirates launched an investigation Thursday into an incident aboard the Japanese oil tanker M. Star early Wednesday that caused one minor injury and significantly damaged the vessel’s hull, an official at Fujairah port said Thursday. Captain Mousa Murad, the port’s general manager, said UAE officials began examining the tanker when it arrived late Wednesday after suffering unexplained damage in the Strait of Hormuz en route to Chiba port in Japan (IOD Jul.29,p7). Photographs released by the UAE’s state news agency, Wam, showed a large dent in one side of the ship’s hull, while news said the side bore puncture marks.
