Petrobras: 2008 investment of $23.5 billion record high

Sao Paulo-Brazil’s Petrobras invested a record $23.5 billion in 2008, an increase of 18 on 2007, the company said February 11. Petrobras spent $11.6 billion, or 49 of all new investments, on exploration and production in Brazil, a 26 increase over 2007. Investment in natural gas rose 50 on 2007 to $3.2 billion, mainly driven by an expansion of the company’s gas pipeline network in Brazil. Investment in refining activities saw an increase of 14 on the previous year to $5.5 billion.
