New standard for ship electronics data exchange

The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) has announced an initiative to develop a new standard for data communications among shipboard electronic devices. The NMEA has established a Working Group, headed by Frank Cassidy, chairman of the NMEA Standards Committee, to develop the new standard. The Working Group will cooperate with the International Standards Organisation (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to develop a standard that will have wide international acceptance.
