We have employed an electrostatic energy analyzer to measure the kinetic energy of the NO+fragment from the photopredissociation of the ion N2O+(Atilde;thinsp;2Sgr;+). The collinear FIBLAS technique has enabled us to selectively populate predissociated rovibrational levels. For all levels studied, we obtain a narrow energy distribution, corresponding to preferential population of thev=4 vibrational level of NO+(1Sgr;+), with a broad distribution over the rotational levels of this fragment. We have been able to observe the dependence of the kinetic energy liberated in the centerhyphen;ofhyphen;mass frame as a function of the initial rotational excitation of the (100)2Sgr;+level. The dissociation channel O+(4S)+N2(Xthinsp;1Sgr;+g) has also been observed, but this mode of deexcitation has a small probability for the lowhyphen;lying predissociated levels studied.
