Deuterium disproportionation equilibria in the ammonia system were studied at 0deg; and 25deg; with a pulsedhyphen;molecularhyphen;beam mass spectrometer. The equilibrium constant for the reaction NH3+ND3=NH2D+NHD2was found to be 8.29plusmn;0.25 at 0deg; as compared with a statistical value of 9. The experimental results are shown to be consistent with theoretical calculations and similar measurements in the water system.
