The decay of the concentration of metastable Xeast; (3P2) in a neonndash;xenon mixture has been measured using the stationary afterglow technique in the pressure range 0.2ndash;100 Torr, at 295deg;thinsp;K. The diffusion coefficient of Xeast; (3P2) in neon has been determined asDprime;0=143(plusmn;10) cm2thinsp;sminus;1at 1 Torr. The reaction rates for collisional quenching of Xeast; (3P2) in twohyphen;body and threehyphen;body collisions have been measured, yieldingk1=1.85(plusmn;0.31) times;10minus;16cm3thinsp;moleculeminus;1thinsp;sminus;1for the twohyphen;body process Xeast; (3P2) +Ne andk2=1.19(plusmn;0.19) times;10minus;32cm6thinsp;moleculeminus;1thinsp;sminus;1for the threehyphen;body process Xeast; (3P2)+Xe+Ne. XeNeast; excimers resulting from collisions involving Xe(3P1) states are also observed.
