The deuteron quadrupole coupling constants in the deuterated methyl fluoride and 1,3,5hyphen;trifluorobenzene molecules have been determined from nematic phase studies using a pulsed FT NMR spectrometer. The values obtained in the molecular symmetry axis system are as follows: khgr;zz= minus;47.8plusmn;1.5 kHz (in CD3F) and khgr;zz= minus;94.4plusmn;0.7 kHz (in 1,3,5hyphen;C6D3F3). If the field gradient tensor is assumed to be diagonal in the Cndash;D bond axis system, the values of the coupling constants referred to the Cndash;D bond are given by khgr;CD= 133plusmn;7 kHz (in CD3F, eegr; = 0.03plusmn;0.03) and khgr;CD= 180plusmn;3 kHz (in 1,3,5hyphen;C6D3F3, eegr; = 0.05plusmn;0.01).
