An extra electron in liquid argon does not form a localized state. The freehyphen;ion yield in liquid argon isGlpar;eminus;rpar;fithinsp;ap;thinsp;5, which indicates that all the ionndash;electron pairs formed during the x radiolysis of argon become free ions. The difference between the values ofGfiin neopentane (0.9) andnhyphen;hexane (0.13) is due to the smaller efficiency of electron localization in the former than in the latter liquid. The efficiency of electron localization is a function of the geometry of the hydrocarbon molecule.
