Using proton resonance we have verified the existence of a metamagnetic transition in manganous acetate tetrahydrate which had been previously proposed to explain low field magnetization data. The transition was found to occur when a field of 6 Oe was applied along theaaxis. The observation of the transition was facilitated by the existence of one narrow line in the proton resonance spectrum which appears to originate from one of the acetate groups. Fields greater than 6 Oe along theaaxis produce a mixed antiferromagnetic and saturated paramagnetic state which gradually turns into a pure saturated paramagnetic state as the field is increased. Twohyphen;dimensional magnetic ordering appears to exist above the Neacute;el temperature.
