Soft Xhyphen;Ray Absorption Edges of Metal Ions in Complexes. I. Theoretical Considerations

The effect of crystal field symmetry on the appearance ofKxhyphen;ray absorption edges of metal ions in complexes is considered. In particular, the splitting of the 1smdash;4pabsorption for first row transition elements is related to the splitting of the degeneracy of the 4penergy levels in the ion by the crystal field.
