It is theoretically shown that the nuclear relaxation times and the saturation parameter of each component line of twohyphen;spin spectrum depend on the sign of the spinmdash;spin coupling constantJ.Then it is suggested that the absolute sign ofJcan be determined through measurement of the relaxation times or saturation parameters. The experimental conditions are discussed taking twohyphen;spin systems of13Csngbnd;1H,13Csngbnd;19F,1Hsngbnd;19F, and1Hsngbnd;31P as examples.
