Measurements of the static dielectric constant of the cyclohexane+aniline system have been made in the neighborhood of the critical point. Within the experimental resolution of one in 105, no critical behavior was found. This is shown to be consistent with the prediction of the droplet model of this effect, where the amplitude of the expected critical term is calculated by subtraction of two expressions. In the particular case of cyclohexane + aniline these terms are approximately equal. A consequence of this model is that the change in critical temperature due to an applied electric field should be positive for most mixtures (and very small for this particular system) and that previous measurements of negative values are therefore likely to be due to spurious heating effects.
