Determination of Aundash;O bond energy by glow discharge mass spectrometry

The neutral species sputtered from several metallic targets are studied by glow discharge mass spectrometry. The dependence of ngr;=MO+/(M++MO+) on the discharge gas pressure allows the Mndash;O bond energy to be determined. The experimental results suggest that the bond energy of AuO should be about 3 eV.
