Fast flow studies of the reaction rates of O(3P) atoms with CS2and OCS, using the ESR detection method, were studied. In the reaction with CS2, studied over the temperature range of 218ndash;293thinsp;deg;K, linear least squares treatment of the data obtained leads to an Arrhenius rate constant expression of (1.66plusmn;0.23) times;1013exp(minus;1280plusmn;70/RT) cm3moleminus;1sdot;secminus;1for the reaction O(3P) + CS2rarr; CS + SO. The reaction between O(3P) and OCS was studied over a temperature range of 239ndash;404thinsp;deg;K and an Arrhenius expression of (1.2plusmn;0.2) times;1013exp(minus;4270plusmn;70/RT) cm3moleminus;1sdot;secminus;1was obtained. The Arrhenius parameters obtained in this work are in reasonably good agreement with some of the existing literature results on these reactions. Although these results lead to rather small adjustments in the Arrhenius parameters recommended, the new values are significant with respect to a comparison of the ratio of Arrhenius factors for these two reactions. This point is discussed explicitly at the end of this paper.
