From 1968 to 1972 NARSA watched the changes occurring in the nation - tighter legislation, a depressed economy, and raw material shortages - and decided that despite all that, business was just fine. It's clear from the Automotive Cooling Journals spanning 1968 to 1972 that the association was not only looking back from whence it had come, but also looking forward to new opportunities in heating and cooling system repair. For one, air conditioning was hot hot hot. The January/February 1968 issue reported that in 1958, 338,910 A/C units-factory installed and aftermarket - were sold. In 1968 there were more than 8 million air conditioners on the road. More than half of NARSA members were in A/C repair and that number was increasing steadily.
