Laserhyphen;induced fluorescence studies showed that the higher CD3H vibrational fundamentals (ngr;2at 2142 cmminus;1and ngr;4at 2263 cmminus;1) are populated more rapidly than the intermediate fundamental (ngr;5at 1291 cmminus;1) when ngr;6at 1037 cmminus;1is excited by aQhyphen;switched CO2laser. The experimentally observed rate for the (ngr;2,ngr;4) fluorescence at 4.5 mgr; is 300plusmn;50 msecminus;1thinsp;torrminus;1. Possible activation pathways are identified using the results of thermal lensing experiments and studies of fluoresence intensity as a function of laser power. Interspecies energy transfer rates from CD3H to SF6, SiF4, and CF4were determined to be 154plusmn;7, 146plusmn;9, and 33plusmn;1 msecminus;1thinsp;torrminus;1, respectively.
