Measurements have been made of the rf spectrum of metastableN2lpar;A3Sgr;uplus;rpar;by the molecular beam magnetic resonance method. Transitions obeying selection rulesdgr;Fthinsp;equals;thinsp;0, dgr;MFthinsp;equals;thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;1, were observed in states with quantum numberslpar;N, J, Frpar;equal to (0, 1, 2), (0, 1, 1), (1, 2, 1), (1, 2, 2), (1, 2, 3), (2, 1, 1), and (2, 3, 2). The theoretical basis of this spectrum is presented in detail and used to derive hyperfine constants and the following molecular averages:Fermi contact:iprime;12lang;dgr;lpar;rairpar;rang;PHgr;thinsp;equals;thinsp;lpar;2.7thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;0.4rpar;thinsp;times;thinsp;1023cmminus;3,Electronndash;nuclear dipolar:iprime;12lang;raiminus;3lpar;3cos2ohgr;aithinsp;minus;thinsp;1rpar;rang;PHgr;thinsp;equals;thinsp;lpar;minus;thinsp;4.3thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;0.4rpar;thinsp;times;thinsp;1024cmminus;3,Quadrupole coupling: e2q0Qthinsp;sol;thinsp;hthinsp;equals;thinsp;minus;thinsp;1.8thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;1.0MHz(primes indicate that the summations are to be carried out over only the unpaired electrons).
