Rumen micro#x2013;organisms ferment glycerol to carbon dioxide and acetic, propionic, and butyric acids. The utilisation of glycerol, calculated to be at least 0.065 #x3BC;#x2013;moles/ml/min, is due to bacterial metabolism.
