Intermolecular vibrational coupling in crystallinemhyphen;dinitrobenzenemdash;Polarized infrared spectra of oriented polycrystalline films

High resolution infrared spectra of oriented crystal films ofmhyphen;dinitrobenzene have been recorded at about 20 K using polarized radiation. The intermolecular coupling within the unit cell has been observed and is interpreted in terms of the known crystal structure. Symmetry species of the molecular vibrations and their factor group components are determined on the basis of the observed polarization behavior of the crystal bands. Some of the earlier assignments are revised.
