If flow temperatures of 800-1000deg C are used for the combustionof powdered solid fuels (coal or water) energy can be produced whileat the same time emissions of atmospheric pollutants are mini- mised.We have developed and precisely characterised an apparatus todetermine the kinetic parame- ters of the potentially limitingreactions (devolatilisation and solid residue oxidation) involvedduring high heating-rate combustion.
