Rang Olufsen knows a thing or two about consumer electronics, with a portfolio that includes music systems and loudspeakers. And now it is expanding into the automotive market. In partnership with Audi, it produced the Advanced Sound System for the flagship A8 and S8 models featuring 14 speakers and more than 1000W of amplifier power. Four different settings accessed via the Audi MMI multi media interface allow the driver to optimise the sound within the car to suit where occupants sit. BO is not a complete stranger to the industry. It began working with aluminium for its audio equipment in the 1960s, developing expertise in machining and anodising, leading to involvement with Audi and BMW. It discussed aluminium technology with Audi in 1996/7, when the aluminium A8 model was launched, and supplies BMW with components such as footsteps for the X3 and the control dial for the i-Drive system.
