Speculation surrounding Katanga Mining Ltd mounted last week as the company issued a statement saying it was unaware of any developments that would warrant a 25 spike in its share price on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Shares in theToronto-listed miner were traded in huge numbers on the exchange, pushing the shares up to 1.15 Canada dollars (1.14 dollars) at April 12's's close compared with a closing price of 0.92 Canada dollars April 9. The stock was traded in high volumes, with 4.5 million shares being bought and sold - the last time itsawa volume approaching that number was on April 1, a day after it issued a positive technical report. The volume of shares that day traded was 3 million.
