US offers for high-volatility coking coal have risen in the past few days following a blast that killed 25 workers at the Massey metallurgical coal mine in the USA (MB April 6), market participants said. Massey mainly sells to the domestic market and the explosion has severed its supply of high-volatility coking coal, which has pushed up domestic and export prices to levels commanded by low-volatility coal, which is generally costlier, they said.
