An attempt has been made in this short paper to highlight various link design issues pertaining to satellite communication. The paper discusses about two major link design examplesviz, FDMA and TDMA relating to analog and digital cases respectively. The design procedure is aimed at illustrating the concepts involved in a typical satellite link design and so, very fine details are not included in this presentation. However, the examples worked out are quite realistic since typical INSAT parameters are considered for both FDMA and TDMA cases.
