摘要

In an earlier article, I made reference to the use of the Rosetta Stone concept and process to point to the similarities and differences between two human body model (HBM) electrostatic discharge (ESD) standards. Since the article was published, I have received several requests to shed some light on the origins of the Rosetta Stone. A preliminary and short review of the origins can be found in other literature, so this article presents a more extensive research review with applications to both the HBM and the charged device model (CDM) ESD standards. Rosetta Stone is a what, not a who. The original is actually a stone tablet with an intriguing shape, engraved with some inscription. As the story goes, the stone was discovered in Egypt in 1799 by Napoleon's army. The soldiers were rebuilding a fort in a small northern village in the Nile delta called Rashid (translation, Rosetta) when they unearthed the stone tablet. The stone measured 45 in. high x 28 in. wide x 11 in. thick, with a weight of about 1674 1b. Three different inscriptions were written in three parallel columns on the stone. For this discussion, assume the obvious: the three texts bore the same message.
