Goat litter as unconventional feed supplement

To reduce the feed lost, goat litter was used as feed supplement to different species of livestock i.e., cattle, sheep, goat and pig. For this purpose 30 Black Bengal goats of 7-8 months of age were maintained on deep litter for a period of 12 weeks. Animals were divided into three groups keeping 5, 10 and 15 goats in each group and designated as Gr-l, Gr-2 and Gr-3 respectively. Litter materials taken from three groups were designated as L-1, L-2 and L-3 respectively. Litter was prepared by chopped paddy straw. Goats were fed paragrass ad lib and concentrate ration @150 g/goat/d which was composed of maize 50%, rice polish 25%, GNC 23%, common salt 1%, mineral and vitamin mixture 1%. Randomly five samples of litter were taken from each group and proximate analysis was done as per A.O.A.C. (1980). Six lnembers of each species (sheep, goat, cattle and pig) were taken from the existing farm of WBUAFS, Mohanpur (WB).Ration with 5% sun-dried goat litter supplement was offered to sheep and goat of 5-6 months of age, whereas 10% and 15% sun-dried litter supplemented concentrate were provided to cattle and pig of 7-8 months age daily for a month. Data were analysed as per Snedecor and Cochran (1967).
