摘要

Comparison was made between two groups each of 6 clinically healthy mongrel male dogs wherein all the animals had undergone pre-scrotal urethrotomy with the urethra left unsutured. Urethrotomy incision in animals of one group was aided with oxidized regenerated cellulose held in place with stay sutures Healing of urethrotomy incisions in both the groups was observed till 21 days post-operatively. Subcutaneous ecchymosrs and foliicuiar urethritis with rise in neutrophils were common findings in both the groups. Positive contrast urethrography revealed a slight dilation at the incision site in group I animals while urethral mucosal irregularity along with slight narrowing of urethral lumen was observed in animals of group II. Healing of urethral wound took 11-16 days in group I and 9-11 days in group II animals. It is concluded that further study is required to establish the role of oxidized regenerated cellulose in the healing process of unsutured urethrotomy in dogs.
