Past Presidents, members, ladies and gentlemen, I am deeply honoured and sincerely appreciate being elected to the post of President of this Institution. It was some 26 years ago that I entered the lighting profession at the then Tyne Wear Metropolitan County Council under the watchful eyes of Joe Knowles and Geoff Orrock. At that time it never crossed my mind that one day I would be standing in front of you as your President - a post which has been filled by many notable lighting engineers. I trust that I will not let those people down in the execution of this most high office.
