Substance abuse in young patients with type 1 diabetes: easily neglected in complex medical management.

Abstract The use of recreational drugs has become increasingly popular among young people. As a centre caring for a large group of young patients with type 1 diabetes, we have become concerned about the number of patients presenting with drug-related metabolic problems. We present a case series highlighting the issues of substance abuse in young patients with type 1 diabetes. (Intern Med J 2005; 35: 359-361).
