Diesel electric low costs and noise

Two new vessels, built in The Netherlands and Norway, feature virtually identical diesel electric propulsion packages comprising four Caterpillar 3516B marine diesels powering four Siemens generators, which in turn drive two Siemens motor driven Aquamaster Contaz 15 propulsors with contra-rotating propellers. Although the vessels are the second and third to be built of the same basic 83.2m x 19.7m MT 6000 design, one has an extra superstructure deck to provide additional accommodation for ROV personnel and marginally higher horsepower.
