Sixteen species ofPythium, two atypical species, and nine heterothallic isolates ofPythiumwere tested for their ability to infect the roots of tomato seedlings in a laboratory assay. Isolates of the same species, with the exception ofP. megalacanthum, were also tested in a glasshouse trial for capacity to cause damping-off of germinating seeds and seedlings of tomato cv. #x2018;Potentate#x2019;, pea cv. #x2018;Victory Freezer#x2019;, andIpomoea violaceaL. cv. #x2018;Heavenly Blue#x2019;.
