Today's common practices of reporting on backups do not guarantee a sound data-protection strategy. Deeper discovery, reporting, intelligent policies and active management are required to understand whether your data really is protected. Backup vendors have yet to deliver solutions that address these issues. However, solutions coming to market this year promise great strides in improving visibility, and even more importantly, ensuring that data can be restored and recovered.
