Early coating failures, excessive pitting and accelerated corrosion found on both its single and double hull tankers prompted Chevron Shipping to look at corrosion mitigation strategies and maintenance methodologies on how to control tank corrosion throughout the life span of its tankers. Rong T Huang, a senior engineer with Chevron (now an independent consultant) explained the company's approach during the International Workshop on Corrosion Control held in Texas during February.
