The Mas Sedo Agri-Rural Training and Studies Centre in Reus was the location chosen for this first international course on olive growing and environmental protection, which ran from 23 to 30 October 2005. Several institutions were involved in its organisation: the International Olive Council, the Agri-Food Research and Technology Institute (IRTA) and the Department of Agriculture, Stock-breeding and Fisheries (DARP) of the regional Catalonian government, in association with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Tarragona Provincial Authorities. Presiding the opening session were the Counsellor for Agriculture, Stockbreeding and Fisheries of the regional Catalonian government, Antoni Siurana, the Heads of the International Olive Council's Technical and Economics Divisions, Mohamed Sbitri and Dimitrios Christodoulou, and the course officer, Magdalini Rappou, as well as representatives from the agriculture ministry and provincial authorities.
