All those involved in lighting are engaged in the drive to cut energy use to meet carbon targets. But what if the climate change premise is not as clear cut as it is made out to be? Hardly a day goes by without news of how the activities of mankind are altering the planet. It's a subject that has become emotive, with fact and myth being exploited by those on both sides of the debate. How can we pick our way through the subject matter to understand the risks and what can be done about them? Let me start by making it clear that I am neither a 'denier' nor a 'sceptic'. Engineers, of which I am one, are applied scientists. In order to do our work effectively we need the trust of the public at large and the fact is that people have lost their faith in science because of what they are being told versus what they perceive.
