Percutaneous transvenous embolization of varicoceles has become an accepted method of treatment in many centres. Regardless of the method of embolization used, results are almost as good as those of open surgery; the complication rate and time off work for patients also compares favourably. The advent of laparoscopic surgery has led to renewed interest in the management of varicoceles, and critical evaluation of all treatment modalities will be required to determine the best available therapy.
