Now more than ever, people in developed societies live longer-and in many of these countries, a larger portion of the workforce is older. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has projected that by 2060 about 40 percent of the population of Japan will be of retirement age. According to research firm Ovum, in many European Union (EU) countries one third or more of the utility workforce is over 50. In 2011, 33 percent of the Korean labor force was over 50.
