The principal advantage of adaptive inverse control is its combination of simplicity and power. It can perform as well as standard "optimal" techniques under the conventional statistical assumptions. But even more important, it is easily extended to cases that go beyond these assumptions because of the natural way with which neural networks can be incorporated into the algorithms. One of the advantages of inverse control is that once the plant is identified the controller is automatically designed, which does not happen with traditional control schemes.
