Researchers will further shrink a robot that is able to manipulate tiny objects without the use of an onboard power supply to target biological applications. A TINY FLYING ROBOT that can wield a variety of microscale tools is currently being developed, which could be used to assemble microelectronic devices or travel around the human body to carry out microsurgery. The microrobot levitates in air powered by a magnetic field. It can be used for micromanipulation of tiny objects for applications including micro assembly of mechanical and electronic components, handling biological samples and surgery.
