Under the joint auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), China Association for Science and Technology, CAS, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of the Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, and China Petroleum Chemical Corporation, the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) will organize the 40th IUPAC Congress from August 14-19, 2005, in Beijing. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the 43rd IUPAC General Assembly from August 13 - 21, 2005. The CCS President Bai Chunli, who is also CAS vice president, will be president of the Congress and chairman of the local organizing committee, the CCS Secretary-general Yao Jiannian, who is also vice director of the CAS Institute of Chemistry, will be its Secretary-general. Several Nobel Prize laureates are expected sit on the meeting's advisory committee and give plenary lectures at the Congress.
