We all know it-a 21st-century clean energy economy demands a 21st-century electric grid. Although our network devices, vehicles and processing abilities are pushing the limits of available knowledge, much of the traditional electrical infrastructure that powers our everyday electrical devices has changed little from the design of the original electric grid envisioned by Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse at the end of the 19th century.
