Vertical and horizontal components of the electric background field at the sea bottom

The natural E-field variations measured at the se; bottom, and the magnitude of the different field component compared in the light of the theory for induction caused b: ocean surface waves. At shallow sea depths of 107-12; meters only the vertical component carries an observable effect of ocean waves, whereas the horizontal field is domi nated by the larger magnetotelluric noise. This agrees wel with theoretical predictions.
