It is widely known that many students withdraw from their course before qualifying, so what was their motivation to enter nursing in the first place? A better understanding of students' reasons for entering the profession may help to inform strategies to reduce attrition.In a small study, 68 undergraduate nursing students at Queen's University Belfast volunteered to complete two essay questions out of a possible six. The topics included reasons for entering the nursing profession, the meaning of 'a good nurse' and experiences of clinical placements.
