paraIn order to test paint and coatings for the automotive paint industry, the best way to do testing is to expose painted test panels in the actual outdoor environment. Test panels are place on exposure racks where panel temperatures relative humidity and rainfall are recorded daily. However, in order to test the panels for simulating years of exposure to the environment, a variety of machines that attempt to simulate as accurately as possible true outdoor conditions are used. Such machines can create all kinds of hazardous, damaging environments. For instance, quick ultra-violet (QUV) cabinets will accelerate the intensity of the exposure to sunlight in extreme conditions to get a five-year exposure outcome in just three to six months. Corrosive materials are dropped on to test panels with an eyedropper for acid rain testings but also take into account changes in temperature. However, there is ongoing research on making paints more UV durable pigments./para
