Reproductive targets for the Irish pasture-based dairy herd

The main driver of efficiency and profitability for all grass-based, cattle-production systems is compact calving. This is relevant for beef and, especially, dairy herds, as it is critical to be able to overlap the metabolic requirements of the milking herd with pasture availability. To achieve such a compact calving pattern, there needs to be a very compact breeding season.
