We have reported the first superconducting a-axis Nd1+xBa2-xCu3O7-dthin films prepared by the laser ablation technique. It has been shown that a-axis-oriented films can be formed not only by adjusting deposition temperature and pressure, but also they may be fabricated in the temperature-pressure regions normally leading to c-axis-oriented films, by altering laser fluence, laser frequency and the target density. The a-axis films obtained by manipulating these parameters are characterized, and their observed transport properties are interpreted using various diagnostic techniques.
