Magnezit develops new deposit

OWING TO RISING domestic demand and uneconomical import costs, Magnesite Industrial Complex JSC, part of Russia's leading refractory company - the Magnezit Group - is to start producing caustic calcined magnesite (CCM) in November 2006, making it the first producer of CCM in Russia. A new fused magnesia plant is also planned. Magnezit Group has recently started developing the Goluboye magnesite deposit in the Krasnoyarsk region. Mining operations began in late August, with industrial extraction and shipments scheduled for the end of 2006 or the beginning of 2007. The explored reserves of the Goluboye deposit come to 1 5.5m. tonnes, yet the volume may turn out to be larger after additional exploration work is conducted. The estimated throughput of the pit is 200,000 tpa of raw magnesite. This project is expected to require over RUR1,000m. (37.3m dollars.) in investment, and will have a 95,000 tpa caustic calcined magnesite processing plant, of which 62,000 tpa will be used as feedstock for fused magnesia and 33,000 tpa will be sold as CCM.
