The return of Sierra Rutile

IT WAS THE TALK of the town in Cannes during the first week of March. Here, the leading players in the titanium minerals and titanium dioxide pigment market came together for their annual meeting - this year at Intertech's TiO_2 2005 conference, next year at IM's 18th Industrial Minerals International Congress in San Francisco, 26-29 March 2006 (see p.56). The press release told us: "The Natural Rutile Giant is Back". Sierra Rutile Ltd (SRL) has commenced full-scale refurbishment of its massive natural rutile operation in southeast Sierra Leone, with mining and production expected to start up before the end of 2005.
